Classes

The wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations and the richer their experiences.  ~Loris Malaguzzi

While I am supporting a local family’s transition to preschool, the studio will be open for some Thursday evening Creativitea Nights, twice-monthly Saturday Parent’s Night Out events and the above Saturday schedule.  I look forward to expanding hours again in the future! If your family would like any particular class topic, please feel free to reach out with your request and I may be able to create a special experience for them.

TO SIGN UP please call (805)452-4595, or email jtkteconleche@yahoo.com to book a class for your child.  Many of these topics are by appointment, so please let me know what experience you would like to offer your child!

More than finishing a “craft kit”, each class emphasizes skill building which will allow the students to continue creating their own projects, as they continue to practice.  Curiosity and problem solving are emphasized in classes so that students can take on the materials and make the learning their own!

“YIM”- Yoga, Imagination and Mindfulness- we explore yoga poses, mindfulness calming and centering techniques, affirmations and imaginative movement throughout this class.  I like to incorporate stories and real world facts to make it a special experience not found anywhere else.  Each class ends with relaxation and an unfinished story so that students can practice creative visualization and strengthen of their own dynamic internal entertainment systems.  Ages 3.5+

Storytelling Around The World- each class incorporates a book from another country and games and activities to foster storytelling, confidence, creativity, Imagination and feedback.  My love of stories, other cultures, illustrators and maps comes through in this class, which leads to an excited class culture around books and stories! Ages 3.5+

Drawing- in this class we explore line drawing, patterning, portraiture, nature observational drawing, zentangle, mandalas, spirit doodles, symmetry and various mediums to create line.  This class supports fine motor skills, hand-eye-coordination and is a great base for many of the other classes.  Ages 3.5+

Painting- practicing skills with various materials to create paintings in various styles following other artists’ work as our inspiration.  We might use watercolour, guache, acrylic, inks and more.  Ages 3.5+

Mixed Media- using unique materials and techniques that don’t always fit into any other category, since often there may be more than one media coming together.  We might use: wire, collage, found objects, and more while creating 2D and or 3D creations.  Ages 3.5+

Fibre Arts- "handwork" holds such a rich tradition around the world.  There is something so soothing about the repetitive nature, the tactile experience and the comeraderie found with Fibre Arts.  On a given day in this class, We might explore: sewing, embroidery, applique, felting, crochet, finger knitting, weaving, punch needle arts and more.  Ages 7+

Art Journaling- this is also mixed media, but with an emphasis on self expression and exploring how adding the written word changes the experience.  Not all art journaling shows our thoughts, but there are layers of ideas and emotions woven into all the unique materials we use to create a textural piece.  I usually begin this class with an inspirational poem or quote, and we pull cards to help define important words for each budding artist.  Work may include: printing, mark making, gelli plates, texture creation, self exploration and more.  Ages 3.5+
